Fox & Associates is a Christchurch and Ashburton surveying, planning, engineering and land-development firm whose work includes UAV and USV survey services. Its 2020 Tasman District Council trial tested a more complete approach to river-channel modelling across 30 kilometres of the Waimea and Motueka rivers and 9 km².
The team combined drone-mounted LiDAR, aerial photography, GPS and unmanned surface-vessel sonar. The resulting deliverables included a 3D point cloud, aerial imagery, terrain models for the river channels and conventional cross-sections. Fox & Associates won the 2021 Spatial Excellence Award for Innovation – Small Business for the project.
