By 2004–05, Tasman District Council operated Explore Tasman, a corporate intranet GIS with regularly maintained resource, administrative, property, aerial and base data. It supported external iwi access through the MIRMAK data-sharing work and a participatory GIS workshop at Te Awhina Marae. The council was preparing Version 2 with planning and archaeological information.
