Wellington Regional Council used GIS for environmental and hazard work, including its 1998 Wildfire Study. In 2005, it provided technical support and funding for Rangitāne’s Ngā wāhi tapu o Ngāti Hāmua cultural-sites GIS project, whose software choice took ArcView compatibility into account.
The council commissioned the combined hazard mapping report in 1996.
