In 2002, Adrienne Kim Bonnington completed Master of Information Science research at Massey University titled “A requirements engineering framework for developing COTS GIS applications”. The research used industry case studies to examine requirements engineering and commercial off-the-shelf software selection for GIS applications. It proposed a framework for aligning GIS products with users’ requirements.
