A caption in Landlink, Issue 8 (May 1999), names Dave Mole as a member of the back row in a team photograph accompanying “LINZ first in mapping”. The article says the pictured team received plaques for contributions to establishing the New Zealand Topographic Digital Database and dates the four-year project to 1995 with LINZ’s predecessor DOSLI.
A later technical account by Geoff Howard, Robin Pickering, Dave Mole and Peter Woodsford records that Surveyor-General Bill Robertson approved a business case around 1987 to convert the 1:250,000 mapping into a digital database. The programme was expected to take about three years but was reported as completed in roughly eighteen months.
