Keith Carr wrote The Implementation of GIS in New Zealand for the 1988 ESCAP workshop report. His contemporary account described the established New Zealand Land Resource Inventory, purpose-built vector GIS and the wider use of spatial technology. The paper provides a record of how a New Zealand practitioner described the field before the 1989 Wellington GIS conference.
