Sheryl Denise Hendriksen used GIS in her 1995 Massey University thesis to investigate soil-slip erosion following Cyclone Bola in 1988. Her analysis examined relationships between the erosion and slope angle, underlying rock type and slope aspect on the North Island’s East Coast. Aerial photographs helped delineate soil slips, while digital contour data supplied terrain information.
