In a 2025 recollection, Andrew Hare says he took Waimate District Council’s GIS role around 2000, replacing Martin Erasmuson, implemented the Bizeasset asset-management system created by Trevor Glass, and engaged Simon Nitz as a contractor to install MapInfo web browsers such as Encounter. He also remembers the less glamorous corporate work that sat around those systems: District Plan mapping, matching land parcels to rating information, LIM mapping and asset management. His account describes how the council’s earlier systems led into its MapInfo work in 2006–08.
