Martin Erasmuson's professional interests centre on strategic data and information initiatives. Martin Erasmuson co-authored the CERA Spatial Data Infrastructure whitepaper with Stephen Ferriss in March 2016. Its biography identifies him as StratSim’s managing director, with experience in information architecture, GIS, knowledge management and programme delivery. The paper described the data-sharing and organisational work behind Canterbury’s earthquake-recovery mapping. Erasmuson also chaired NZEUG in the project-held December 2008 newsletter.

In September 2008 NZEUG chair Martin Erasmuson, then at Nelson City Council, asked members whether the annual conference should remain strongly Esri-focused, open further to competing vendors, or become a vendor-neutral GIS industry conference. Council staff were not spectators.
