PersonRobin Falconer Becoming a GIS profession

Robin Falconer's professional profile describes his later work as an independent consultant. Robin Falconer operated GeoResearch Associates from 1980 to 1994. His 2014 EPA evidence describes early-1990s bathymetric mapping for the Deepwater Fisheries Group and recalls acquiring what he called New Zealand’s second PC ARC/INFO system. He also claimed a founding role in the Esri user group. These priority claims remain his retrospective account.

In evidence filed with the Environmental Protection Authority in 2014, Robin Falconer described his earlier work through GeoResearch Associates and stated that he had bought what he described as New Zealand's second PC ARC/INFO system and had founded the ESRI user group. GeoResearch Associates operated from 1980 to 1994 with Falconer and one or two assistants, and in the early 1990s worked on a Deepwater Fisheries Group programme mapping bathymetry around New Zealand. Falconer’s account places his consultancy within the early Esri user community.
