GUILD-on-the-Web

ProjectGUILD Guild-on-the-web

GUILD-on-the-Web was an environmental spatial-data service released by Landcare Research in January 1996. Robert Gibb led its development and David Medyckyj-Scott was a co-developer. It provided public web access to environmental information and was described in their 1996 Spatial Information Research Centre paper.

Medyckyj-Scott recalls GUILD as a conceptual predecessor to later Landcare portals and to Digimap, which he led at the University of Edinburgh. Claims that GUILD was the first operational public environmental-data web service are attributed to the developers. Its documented release places it among the early applications in New Zealand web GIS.
